Background
Cossham Hospital has been a valued part of Kohler Uninterruptible Power’s partnership with North Bristol NHS Trust since 2012. Over the years, we’ve delivered UPS units and ongoing service support to meet their growing power protection requirements.
Challenge
In 2022, Cossham Hospital required power protection for their MRI machines. The hospital initially operated mobile MRI units positioned on-site. A new wing was being constructed to house the MRI machines permanently, which meant that the generator also needed to be relocated—without disrupting operations. Another challenge: the generator required a separate 10,000-litre bulk fuel tank. The proposed location was a relaxing garden area for patients, which wasn’t ideal.
Solution
Our engineering team stepped in with a bold, space-saving solution: position the tank beneath the generator itself. This innovative approach preserved valuable outdoor space and made future relocation seamless.
The NHS Trust not only approved the idea—they loved it. This smart thinking helped secure our continued partnership for moving forwards as it solved the issue for them. In addition, that same year we added to our roster by installing two KOHLER PW6000 units to backup surgical suites elsewhere on site.
Result and Impact
Today we provide full-service support for all UPS equipment and the 900kVA generator through our expert engineering team.
